Southbound Cruising Services is proud to have access to one of the most skilled metal craftsmen in this area.

Pete Appell has an infatuation with welding and custom fabrication, and knows how much quality matters. Having a long background in all aspects of welding and fabrication, and a familiarity with all metals and processes, Pete is prepared to build or repair any component of your boat. We are proud to offer his passion for tig welding and metal crafting to the marine industry. Pete is a wizard with stainless steel and bronze, and aluminum.

Please contact us to ask about any special fabrications you may need. From a stainless steel folding bicycle (maybe just to fit in that locker under the quarter berth), to a davit/arch for your dingy, solar panel and/or radar. Mast repairs, custom sheave boxes or deck organizes, custom anchor rollers, removable bowsprits, mast steps, cockpit enclosures, or whole boats. Pete has made life raft mounts, custom hawse pipes, steering gears, keel lifting boxes, and nearly every other part of a sailboat that is made of metal. Whatever it is, Pete can build it.

Pete Appell builds most of the custom hardware we install.

Pete developed and built the handrails along this sugarscoop transom. The handrails are also sliders for the dingy, which stores in davits above the transom. The RIB used to do gelcoat damage on every trip past.

This is a custom double anchor roller for a Tartan 44. Pete designed and fabricated this fitting to allow the owner to carry 2 anchors and to attach the tack of an assmetrical or crusing spinnaker. Pete polished this fitting to a #8 mirror finish and it is a work of beauty.
Welding and Fabrication Services are $85 per hour , and there is a minimum charge of 1 hour. In addition to being one of the best in the industry, Pete is also one of the fastest and most creative. Please Email Us for pricing estimates, or just to discuss your needs.
